Prior to becoming an administrator, Karen’s teaching career began in the Teaneck Public Schools where she taught for 10 years at both the elementary (grades 3 and 4) and the middle school level (math and science - grade 6). Her prior administrative experience was in the Englewood School district where she served as a school facilitator / vice-principal. She joined the Dumont School District in 2002 serving as the vice-principal of Honiss School before moving into the principalship. Karen Beckford-Bennett has been an accomplished New Jersey Educator for 30 years, and has spent the last 18 years as Principal of Lovell J. Other accolades include a citation from the state of New Jersey for Outstanding Volunteer Contributions, the Prudential Spirit of Community Award and the Charlotte Bacon Act of Kindness Award.Dr. She was the sole winner of a teen service contest hosted by National Geographic and is a repeat semifinalist for L’Oreal Paris’ Women of Worth. The organization has donated over 140,000 books and earned Grabelle recognition on an international stage. Grabelle is the founder and president of Bags of Books, a nonprofit that promotes childhood literacy. She has been active on the Model UN, Key Club and Math League all four years of high school. As a sophomore she received the Hugh O’Brian Youth Award while attending the organization’s state leadership conference. Grabelle is a two-year member of the National Honor Society and president of the Rho Kappa History Honor Society. She was named Eastern’s September Scholar of the Month for having the highest cumulative weighted GPA of all seniors in the National Honor Society. Grabelle, a senior, has a weighted GPA of 103.771.
